On September 10th, 2025, Charlie Kirk was murdered.
Who was Charlie Kirk? Some would say he was a nazi. Some would say that he was a conservative. Some would say that’s the same thing. Some would disagree.
I would disagree.
I did not watch a lot of Charlie Kirk’s stuff, just whatever random video of his would show up in the accursed youtube shorts that are a waste of time, but that you can’t help but scroll through when you’re really, really bored and can’t find anything better to do. What I can tell you, though, is that what I saw of him was simple, even milquetoast. I have been on the internet a long time. I have read, talked to, and fought with people from all over the political and religious spectrum. I have talked with everyone from communists to actual nazis and Charlie Kirk…wasn’t a nazi. If you put him next to a Republican or Democrat from twenty or thirty years ago, most people probably would have considered him a blue-dog democrat, or maybe the most centrist or republicans.
One thing I do know about Kirk was that he just wanted to talk. He didn’t lecture, he didn’t hold rallies, he talked. He questioned, and he explained, and he debated. In essence, he did almost perfectly what I attempted to do for years. Talk, learn, discuss, and if he was lucky, open people’s minds to his point of view. But where as I, over the years, was confrontational about it, Kirk…never seems to have been. He was calm, collected, and kind. He never called people monsters, even if he pointed out occasionally that their ideas might be monstrous.
And he was murdered for it.
Now, I am not here to defend his views or his life’s work, though I will admit the latter is impressive. He died at the age of 31 having accomplished several things. For one, he started and build the largest conservative youth organization in the USA, founding it in 2012 at the age of 18. He had a wife and children, something near miraculous for a young man his age. He was friends with the President of the USA. The list of his accomplishments is far greater than most, and he did it all by just talking to people.
So, if I did not know him, and I am not here to praise him, why am I writing this post?
The answer to that is simple. He was assassinated in an act that undoubtedly was political terrorism. I say this because, from what I can tell, everyone who knew him appears to have loved him, and in an age of the internet where scandals travel faster than the speed of light I have never heard of anyone being personally wronged by him. He was, by all accounts, a decent man. The only divisive thing about him was his politics, and his politics were only divisive because he questioned and talked to those whose views were different from his, and in many cases he proved their ideas to be flawed.
That was his sin. And he was slain for it.
Already, on the right, Charlie Kirk is being held up as a Martyr. This is not an unfair or improper action. He was a man who tried to talk and he was killed for it. I know I’m repeating myself, but it is a point that I think needs to be hammered home. Because there is a simple truth at play here;
When you kill the moderates, the only ones left are the extremists.
As I said before, Kirk founded and headed the largest Conservative Youth organization in the USA. He was very popular, and given the statistics of where American youths fall on the political spectrum, popular with young men. The thing is, not only was he a force for bringing them into his side of the political spectrum, he was also a force for moderating them. He spoke calmly, he was logical, and he kept those who followed him calm and logical as well.
The simple fact of the matter is young men today are screwed. There are no jobs. There are no homes. There are no women with which to make families. There is little hope left in their hearts, and the future looks bleak. My generation, the Millennials, grew up to a world where the things we were taught were ours by right didn’t manifest. We were built for a world that no longer existed. Gen Z and Gen A grew up in a world where the Boomers and Gen X had those things, but flaunted them with the sometimes not so silent taunt that ‘you will never have them, because fuck you.’
And humans, when they are screwed, become angry. When you have nothing left to lose, you have everything to gain. If you’re willing to be violent enough to take it.
Kirk was a moderating force to this inherent human nature. Milquetoast as I and many others found him, he showed that reason and logic were a path forwards. Now, he had shown that no matter how Milquetoast, run of the mill, and bland you might be, you will be killed for it.
That peace is no longer an option.
Now, do I think this means that his fans will go out and start killing the political opposition? No, I don’t. For one, there are no equivalent figures on the political left for there to be reprisals against. Not only are there no moderate leftists left (they’ve all been driven into the arms of the political right by their more extreme companions), there’s no Leftists out there on the debate scene at all. You might have someone like Hassan Piker, but he’s considered something of a joke and honestly with his numerous calls for political violence and terrorism he’s probably going to end up in prison sooner or later if he doesn’t flee the country.
The other reason I don’t think there will be individual reprisals is the fact that, well, Kirk’s followers have the political power at the moment. President Trump as a personal friend to Kirk, and as we’ve seen since the start of his second presidency, he is not just off the chain, he has obliterated the chain. With the redistricting going on around the country, Republicans are set to sweep the house and senate, they control the Supreme Court, and they have the presidency. There are rumors that Trump might go for a third term (making him and FDR the only presidents who have had one if he does), though I think it likely he wouldn’t. Since the Dems can’t find anyone tolerable to run in the next election, the Republicans likely will keep the white house, either under Vance or one of Trump’s sons.
They have the power, and now they have been shown that it doesn’t matter how moderate you are, you will be killed. They have the full power and authority of the state to crush the other side. Trump is known for having a vengeful streak and repaying those who have wronged him, as well as being generous to those who are his friends. There is a quote from Lucius Sulla that he seems to embody quite fully, “No friend ever served me, and no enemy ever wronged me, whom I have not repaid in full.”
Kirk was his friend, and he served him well. It is an undisputed fact that a large part of the reason Trump became president both times is because of Kirk. Now that friend has been wronged in the ultimate way. Both shall be repaid in full, I think.
Many people are celebrating Kirk’s death. They say he was a nazi and a fascist. I have known nazis and facists and he wasn’t one. But his death will create those who follow in their footsteps. Those who have been shown that reason and logic hold no sway, that they will be met only with violence, and so they must be violent in turn.
I have long compared Trump with Sulla, and I do think that this death will only push him closer to the path Sulla took in his own life. I think the reprisals will be swift, they will be vast, and they will be hard. People are going to pay for Kirk’s death, not just the man who shot him, but all those who inspired the shooter, who incited them to this action.
Kirk’s murder will have the opposite effect of what the shooter wanted. Instead of halting ‘fascism’ it will grow it. People who probably never bothered to watch Kirk speak will go looking for his videos. They will see a moderate, reasonable man, and they will wonder why such a man was killed. They will compare themselves to him, find things they agree upon, and they will fear that they too could be killed. In his death, he will inspire more people not just his views, but even more extreme views beyond them. Because humans are simple creatures, and when scared, they will become violent and excuse violence performed on their behalf that they otherwise might not have.
I have seen people saying that Kirk’s death could lead to a second civil war. I, personally, do not think that will be the case. Back when Trump was nearly assassinated, I did hold that had it occurred there would have been a civil war, as his follower saw their hope extinguished and their only answer to be violence. But now they have the power and they’re only getting more of it. What I do think could happen rather than a second civil war, however, is the first American Imperium.
People are going to listen to Kirk’s words now more than they ever did. Trumps supporters have a martyr. They will go to the polls, they will vote, and they will win. America has long had a two party political system and with this assassination, combined with the massive flight of illegal immigrants, and Trump starting to crack down on inner city blacks because of all the crime, the democrats are going to lose much of their power. The USA is well on its way to being a single party government and when that happens, it effectively will become an empire, with the president serving more as a Roman Imperator than anything else.
As a Heathen, this worries me. Yes, I still have my constitutional rights to my beliefs, but as we’ve seen with things like Age Restrictions, ID verification, and other upcoming laws that violate the right to freedom of speech and the right to privacy, rights held do not mean rights respected. The two party system wasn’t perfect, but it motivated one side to stand against the other when they attempted to violate those rights. Without that balance, there will be none to gainsay the violations of our rights except for the internal consciences of those in power and in my experience said consciences, regardless of right or left, will happily hold that violating those rights is acceptable if it is for the moral good, whatever that might be.
In my own way, I mourn Charlie Kirk’s death. Not because I liked him, not because I agreed with him, not because I knew him, but because in killing a reasonable man who could be talked with, who could be reasoned with, this assassination has opened the door to men who are not reasonable, cannot be talked with, and who will not be reasoned with. They will hold him up as a martyr and say “Look what peace has given us! Look at what the enemy has done! Let us do unto them before they do unto us!”
And they will do it. Because when you kill the moderates, only the radicals remain.
