So this is probably odd, since I’m normally the resource for people, but does anyone know any blogs on wordpress or elsewhere about the roman paganism revival?
Don’t worry, I’m not switching out on anyone, but I do want to learn more of them for various reasons. Help will be appreciated.
Are we speaking of the old Nature Worship that precedes the Roman Pantheon of Polytheism? That would be a very good question. I am familiar with some aspects of the ancient Greek Nature Paganism, prior to the unification of the Greek City-States in what culminated the Greek Pantheon of Polytheism.
However,
I am not sure where to being one’s search for ancient Roman Paganism. You may want to start with the myth of Romulus, Remus, and the She-Wolf (that was supposed to be the Roman version of a Creation Epic)?

I was thinking more the republic/empire era, to be honest.

Well,
Most of the Pagan practices disappeared as a prelude to the forming of the empire. Nature Paganism actually conflicts with the ideals of an “empire”, due to its belief system of “authority” being vested in the God(s) of Nature and not of any single man.
Still,
It would be a scholarly endeavor to research this further.

Well, I think many of the “nature based” paganism practice might have faded, but during the height of the republic and the empire there was a very strong urban/military paganism, with Mars, Jupiter, Bellona and others taking the fore. I suspect there’s a few important lessons we can take from that time as Pagans in the coming years.

I agree whole-heartedly. Just look at the increasing popular movement towards more-natural foods and general medicine. The undercurrents are there, just you won’t hear too much detail from the “media” and those who stand to lose billions from this “exodus” of the “modern times”. – So, there is at least some positive movement.

I suppose, thought it depends on what you mean by “positive movement.” See for me, I think we as urban folks need to learn from the urban paganism of Rome, to see that we do not have to abandon modernity, or urbanitity to retain our Pagan ways.
Also, I think with the rise of militant Islam, learning and mastering the art of Military Paganism could only be a good thing. To learn the lessons of the War Gods and Goddesses, to master their violence, so that violence is not the tool of our annihilation, but rather our salvation in the face of violence begot by genocidal monotheism. For let us not kid ourselves, if ISIL had appeared in the time of Rome when Mars,Bellona, and Mithras were their gods, we would not have to sit by as they slaughtered, raped, and butchered.
