Much to people’s regrets, I am not dead. Much to my regret, two years after my last post, wordpress still writes like a bitch. Which is probably a good thing, because if I didn’t hate how wordpress does it’s internal posting, I probably would have stuck around here rather than going off and doing something productive. Like write 30+ novels for fun (I haven’t really published any of them, because it’s too much fun writing to sit down, edit, and then deal with things like taxes. Someday though, Hel willing).
So why am I back? Because while I have generally managed to stay out of the internet Heathen/Pagan scene, I do still get people’s blog posts in my inbox. While I generally ignore them, or occasionally look at them and shrug, today I saw one and felt I had to say something. In this case Volmarr’s post: “Understanding the Difference: True Christians vs. Christo-Fascists.”
Now, I am going to preface this with three things. First, it is no secret to anyone who reads this blog that I lean towards the political right. Where on the political right fluctuated has changed over the years, and sometimes over the weeks. I’ll admit that, during some rather dark days in this country, such as when everything was on fire during the BLM rights (if anyone remembers those) I even flirted with some of the darker, more authoritarian elements of Right Wing ideas. As a general rule though, I’ve generally fallen into what can be considered “Anti-Authoritarian Center Right,” at least if we’re looking at that square political compass thing. This political view point has led me into a great deal of conflict with other pagans, especially those who have been on the left and especially those in the far left back in the day.
The second preface I’m going to add is that over the last couple years, I have engaged more with the “right wing” side of the internet, in a much more personal way than I did with the Pagan side. My interactions with the Pagan web was through blogs, my interactions with the right as been more via youtubes and discords. So when I talk about some of the stuff in this post, understand that I am speaking from personal experience talking to actual people. That’s going to be important later.
The third preface is that, as a general rule, while I haven’t paid much attention to Volmarr, I have reposted his stuff on my blog before and what I did see didn’t offend me too much. However, this current post of his is something I am going to have to disagree with strongly as a Heathen and I’m going to go over why, just as I did in the old days. It is not meant to be a personal attack on him, but rather as a way to provide a different Heathen view to what he says. Let us begin.
Christo Fascists vs True Christians.
“As Vikings and Norse Pagans we need to know who are enemy is, and also not get them confused with other peoples we are not at war with. Our enemy is Christo-Fascists. We have no reason to be at war with true Christains that actually follow the teachings of their God. Both may in some ways look similar, but they are not at all the same, and we must know the difference. Thus here is the needed knowledge to know the difference. True Christains that come to us in frith deserve our hospitality, but Christo-Fascists deserve nothing other than our sword piercing through their body, but for now let’s try to defeat them at the voting booth. Vote all blue in 2024, no matter how dead the blue canident is. A mostly dead blue team leader is far better than any Christo-Fascist/MAGA/Agenda2024/Trump leader at all.”
Volmarr says that we, as Heathens, need to be at war with “Christo-Facists,” but not “True Christians who actually follow the teachings of their God,” and while they both often look the same, we must know the difference. Right here, off the bat, we run into a problem of definitions, i.e. “Christo-Facists” and “True Christians.” I want to deal with “True Christians” as an issue first.
In my time among the “right wing” circles, one of the first issue I ran into is the issue of Christianity. There are a lot of “right wing” Christians and me being the contentious and inquisitive SOB I was, I got into a lot of fights with them early on. And I do mean a lot of fights. I actually became as infamous with them as I have with my fellow pagans in certain places. But while I made enemies, I also gained much knowledge, one of which is relevant to the issue of “True Christians.” Like many a pagan or heathen out there, I for many years viewed Christianity as this monolithic entity, that baring a few minor ideological differences, was pretty much the same thing. The truth is…it isn’t. Raise an issue with Christianity and its God and you’re going to get dozens of different reasons why that issue “isn’t an issue,” but at any given moment if you try to use what one type of christian said to a different christian, you will be told “that’s wrong, you (insert desired insult here).”
Christianity as a religion started with Christ and his followers (who may or may not have followed the Torah and practiced Judaism), from there it grew into what is known in modern times as the Orthodox Church, which later split into the Orthodox church as we know it and the Catholic church. Then the Catholic church split to form the various Protestant churches, and those Protestant churches continued to split. Then you have the oddballs like the Mormons who just kinda come out of no where. For centuries, the various Protestant Christian faiths had some pretty clearly defined beliefs that often ran very counter to each other. Some of them still do at heart, but there’s been a lot of bleed overs and cross overs to the point where at this point, you’d be really hard pressed to tell the difference between your average Baptist and Methodist, and from personal experience I doubt they could tell you either.
So what does this have to do with “True Christians?” Well, on a fundamental level it is impossible to tell who the “True Christians” are because none of them know either. From my personal perspective, the Orthodox Church has the best historical claim of being the “True Christians” of the world, but it seems that most Orthodox will acknowledge that the reasons the Catholics split off had some logic behind it. The Protestants, on the other hand, are up for debate by everyone who isn’t a Protestant, and as far as they are concerned they’re the only legitimate ones and the Orthodox, Catholics, and other Protestants can go suck a dick.
Now, I know I’m being facetious and pedantic, and this isn’t probably what Volmarr meant and that he’s going to provide his own “definitions” later, but we have to address this if we’re going to deal with the idea of “Christo-Fascism” vs “True Christians.” Why? Because in a way “Christo-Fascists” are…true Christians.
Permit me to explain. Fascism, for ease of use, is a right wing ideology that holds “Everything in the State, Nothing outside the State, Nothing against the State.” It arose in the aftermath of WWI and with the idea of Total War, i.e. that in a world of such devastating wars, the State itself and the people within that State must exist totally and completely for the sole express purpose of being able to wage total war to survive. That’s an over simplification of a complicated subject, but it will get us where we need to go. “Christo-Fascism” then, could be defined as “Everything in the Church, Nothing outside the Chruch, Nothing against the Church.” Basically, if Fascism is an atheistic authoritarian government where all citizens and resources are owned, managed, and used by the state for the state’s survival and domination, then “Christo-Fascism” would be a theocratic authoritarian government where all believers-citizens and resources are owned, managed, and used by the Church-State for its survival and domination.
Here in lies the problem: That describes the vast majority of Christianity from the Catholics on down. I’m giving the Orthodox a pass here because from what I’ve learned talking to actual Orthodox Christians, they hold that the Church is meant to be an advisor to the state, but never the state itself, and they do not hold with violent or forced conversions of non-believers (they’re a bit more insidious about it, but that’s a topic for another time). The Catholic Church, however, believed that it should essentially own the State and have power over it to the point they essentially were the State, and many a Protestant believed back in the day that they should be the State or at least own it like the Catholic church did, at least early on. The Enlightenment came about and fucked that up, reintroducing the idea that church and state should be separate (largely, in my view, thanks to the influx of Pagan Greek ideas that kicked off the Enlightenment, but again, that’s a separate topic).
Now, I do want to address, his “vote blue” statement, but I’ll come back that. Instead, let us skip forwards to how he defines a “True Christian” because it’s relevant to this part of the post.
#### True Christians: Following the Teachings of Jesus
True Christians, in the purest sense, are those who seek to emulate the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. This includes principles of love, compassion, forgiveness, and humility as outlined in the New Testament. Key characteristics of true Christians include:
1. **Love and Compassion**: They prioritize loving their neighbors as themselves, regardless of differences in beliefs, backgrounds, or lifestyles. They strive to show compassion and empathy towards others, following the example of Jesus who welcomed all.
2. **Humility and Service**: True Christians emphasize humility and service to others. They believe in putting others’ needs before their own, reflecting Jesus’ teachings on servant leadership.
3. **Non-violence and Peacemaking**: They advocate for peaceful resolutions to conflicts and reject violence as a means of advancing their beliefs. This aligns with Jesus’ teachings on turning the other cheek and seeking reconciliation.
4. **Inclusivity and Acceptance**: They embrace diversity and welcome individuals from all walks of life, echoing Jesus’ ministry which reached out to marginalized groups and sinners.
5. **Social Justice**: True Christians often engage in efforts to promote social justice and alleviate suffering, inspired by Jesus’ advocacy for the poor, oppressed, and marginalized.
At this point, I am (as politely as possible) going to wonder if Volmarr has actually read the new testament. Not because he is entirely wrong here (we’ll address where he is wrong in a moment), but because what he is laying out here is incompletely. Yes, Jesus did teach the principles of love, compassion, forgiveness, and humility, there is no doubt about that, but he also taught other things.
One of the things I’ve done over the years is break down a couple of religions to their most fundamental, core essence. To remove the window dressing as it was and get at the heart of the message. For example, the fundamental, core foundation of Heathenism is Family. Honor, glory, the Nine Noble Virtues, etc, that is all window dressing, but at the core it is Family. The Gods are family to each other, they are family to us, and even the great conflict that leads to Ragnarok is an issue between two brothers (Odin and Loki) leading their families to war against each other for the wrongs done by each family to the other.
At it’s core, Christianity is about Salvation. That, should you give your soul to God, you will be forgiven your sins. Yes, love, compassion, forgiveness, and humility are virtues in Christianity, but at the end of the day there is only one deed that matters: Do you take Christ as your savior. You can literally be the worst of humanity, but if you take Christ as your Savior you go to heaven. Conversely you can be the best of humanity, but should you reject Christ, you burn forever. That’s it, period, end of story, nothing else matters. That is the Truth of Christianity
So let’s address his points of what “makes” a true christian and see what he gets wrong.
#1 Love and Compassion: Here Volmarr claims that Christ taught complete acceptance of everyone, regardless of differing beliefs, backgrounds, or lifestyles. This, however, is patently untrue. Jesus believed in the Salvation of everyone regardless of where they came from, but he never preached the Acceptance of everyone’s beliefs, background, or lifestyle. Yes, Jesus welcomed pagans, prostitutes, and others to his religion, but that was only if they converted…he never taught that Pagans should be accepted as Pagans and allowed to go about their Pagan ways. “I am the truth and the light, the only way to salvation is through me,” is what he said.
#3 Non-violence and peacemaking: Here, Volmarr claims that Christ taught a Ghandi style of peaceful resistance and non-violence as the method to all solutions. Again, this is wrong. Christ used violence (the most famous example being the money-lenders in the temple) and he encouraged his followers to go out and buy swords. While it is true that he did not lead a violent revolution against the Romans, and that he preferred peace to violence, he was more than willing to use violence to meet his ends if it was required. Indeed, the Christian Armageddon is nothing but Christ using violence to bring about his eternal kingdom, so violence is certainly a part of Christianity’s true nature.
#4 Inclusivity and Acceptance: This one is just another way of saying #1 all over again, but with more political undertones. Yes, Jesus reached out to ‘marginalized’ groups and accepts everyone regardless of background…for Salvation and Conversion. No, Jesus doesn’t give a crap if your black or white, straight or gay, cis or trans. He also doesn’t care if you are a rapist, a pedophile, a mass murderer, an embezzler, an adulterer, or a kinslayer. All are welcome to come to him, repent, and receive Salvation so they can enter Heaven, but what is the key here? Repent. Give up their “sinful ways” and become one with Christ. It isn’t “remain as you are in all your ‘diversity.’”
#5 Social Justice: This one is…complicated to address. Social Justice as an ideology is Christian in origin, that much is a historical fact. The issue with saying it is a hallmark of “True Christianity” however is that it doesn’t come from Christ, it arose from Protestant Churches in the United States a hundred something years ago, as an interpretation of Jesus’s message. An interpretation that ultimately led to the collapse of Left Wing Christianity in the United states and was flat out rejected by the Orthodox church, as well as the Catholic church (until the last decade) and most remaining Protestant churches (until the last couple years). It is, by most metrics, a Heresy. A Heresy, by definition, cannot be True. Since then, over the decades, Social Justice as an ideology has rejected its Christian roots and morphed into something its original Christian creators probably would not recognize or support either. Hardly a metric for “True Christianity,” at least in my book.
My own issues with Social Justice are many and reasonably well documented on this blog, though said posts primarily deal with Social Justice in Paganism and how it violates many of the tenants and principles held within Ancient Pagan belief. Since I have such a massive back catalog on that subject, I am not going to get into it here. This post is going to be long enough on its own, so lets move on to how Volmarr defines a “Christo-Fascist.”
#### Christo-Fascists: Characteristics and Practices
On the other hand, Christo-Fascists represent a distortion of Christian principles into a form of authoritarianism and exclusivism. Characteristics of Christo-Fascists may include:
1. **Authoritarianism**: They advocate for strict adherence to their interpretation of Christianity, often imposing their beliefs on others and suppressing dissent within their communities.
2. **Exclusivism and Intolerance**: Christo-Fascists may exhibit intolerance towards those who do not share their specific theological or political views. They may view themselves as the sole arbiters of truth and salvation, excluding others who do not conform.
3. **Nationalism and Xenophobia**: Some Christo-Fascist groups intertwine nationalism with their religious beliefs, promoting an “us versus them” mentality that can lead to xenophobia and prejudice against minorities or outsiders.
4. **Militancy and Aggression**: In extreme cases, Christo-Fascists may advocate or engage in militant actions, justifying violence or coercion in the name of defending their faith or enforcing their moral code.
5. **Lack of Compassion and Mercy**: Unlike true Christians who emphasize forgiveness and reconciliation, Christo-Fascists may prioritize judgment and punishment, often harshly condemning those they perceive as sinners or moral deviants.
#1 Authoritarianism: Well…he’s right. Here’s the problem though, that attitude describes the history of the Christian Church from the beginning. The Church (all of them) have advocated for strict adherence to their interpretations of Christianity. Even the Orthodox, which is why the Catholics split away from them. On a fundamental level, Christianity is an Authoritarian religion. There is one, singular God and only one singular way to get to heaven; Christ. Go ahead, try to get into heaven without being redeemed by Christ’s Salvation. You can’t do it. Anyone who doesn’t accept Christ is sent to the infernal hell for all eternity. If that isn’t suppressing dissent, I don’t know what is.
#2 Exclusivity and Intolerance: Again, he’s right, but that again describes both the various Churches and their God. Christ is the sole arbiter of Salvation, and by logic only those who follow him correctly would be the sole arbiters to Christ. I get that this can be a hard thing to grasp as a Polythiest, but in the Monotheistic system there is only one right way to worship the one true god. The big problem for Monotheists is no one is entirely sure which is the singular way, they just know that there is only a singular way and they’re all hoping that they’re the ones who got it right. Yes, that does tend to lead to an exclusionary view on other ideologies, because other ideologies threaten the belief that theirs is the only way.
#3 Nationalism and Xenophobia: Remember what I said about how both the Catholic and Protestant churches wanted to either be the State or own the State? This is just an extension of that. As for the xenophobia, this goes back to the previous point. Other ethnic groups tend to have their own interpretation of Christianity (French, Italians, Irish, and Hispanics tend to be Catholic. Germans tend to be Lutheran, English can be anything from Anglican to Baptist). Outside people, with outside views are an implicit threat to a monotheistic mindset, because they challenge the knowledge that one is following the singular way. This has been a defining trait of Christianity since pretty much the beginning.
#4 Militancy and Aggression: Volmarr claims that Christo-Fascists may advocate violence in the name of defending the faith or enforcing their moral code. Thing is, again, this has been in existence as part of Christianity from the beginning. Hel, Pagans both new and old have advocated this, including Pagans preaching Social Justice who have insisted that anyone who doesn’t agree with their Social Justice definition of what Paganism should be must be removed by any means necessary from the umbrella of Pagan faiths. I should know, because I spent years fighting with them on this blog and have the posts to prove it.
None of these are distortions of Christianity or its principles. They’re not a bug, they’re a feature, built into it from the ground up. To claim otherwise is just…wrong.
So where am I going with this? Well, for one, I am not going to make the claim that Christo-Fascists don’t exist. They do. I’ve argued with them. They are a very real threat, though I think their numbers and influence over things are put wildly out of proportion. What I will say though is that trying to claim “Christo-Fascists” aren’t real Christians is patently false. If anything, judging by history, there is a case to be made that they are True Christians, if not the True Christians.
Volmarr then quotes the NIV to prove the bible warns against false teachings. I’m not going to really address this not because I can’t (believe me I can), but because I don’t want to deal with spending my entire day quoting the bible to prove myself right and him wrong on this subject, and because last time I checked the NIV was one of the more reviled translations of the bible because of its inaccuracies in interpretation.
### Conclusion
In summary, while both true Christians and Christo-Fascists identify with the Christian faith, their interpretations and practices diverge significantly. True Christians adhere to the teachings of Jesus Christ with a focus on love, compassion, humility, and inclusivity. In contrast, Christo-Fascists distort these teachings through authoritarianism, exclusivism, and, in extreme cases, militant actions. Understanding these distinctions, alongside biblical warnings against false teachings, is crucial in discussions about faith, ethics, and the impact of religious beliefs on society.
True Christains are our brothers and sisters, no matter what faith we ourselves may follow (if any at all). Christo-Fascists are our enemies and a dire threat to humanity, and as such we who seek to live in a free society and desire peace in the world must stand up to and fight against Christo-Fascists. In 2024 the first line of defense against the Christo-Fascist agenda, as spearheaded by MAGA and Agenda 2025, is to vote blue all across the board. If we lose this election, sadly the next and only step will be a 2nd US Civil War, so the stakes are higher than ever before, vote all blue.
In the end, Volmarr’s conclusion on what is True Christianity is flawed, both historically and theologically. History teaches us that Christianity is a violent, authoritarian religion by heart. Theologically, Christianity is an authoritarian ideology that meets the definition of fascism (Everything in God, nothing outside of God, nothing against God). “True Christians” as he defines them, do not accurately represent the Truth of Christianity or its followers.
Volmarr claims that his “True Christians” are our brothers and sisters regardless of faith. This too, is false. It is a metaphysical impossibility, because Polytheism and Monotheism cannot both be true. If there is One Singular God, then the multiplicity of Gods we Pagans worship cannot exist. If, however, Polytheism is true, then Monotheism is wrong because there is no singular god who rules over all. We are diametrically opposed to each other in a spiritual sense, and while on a mortal level we can be family, friends, or oath-bound to each other, at the end of the day one side or the other is going to be wrong.
Politics
Yeah, I know, no one wants to talk about this, but since we’re already discussing religion, I have to address the politics too.
True Christains that come to us in frith deserve our hospitality, but Christo-Fascists deserve nothing other than our sword piercing through their body, but for now let’s try to defeat them at the voting booth. Vote all blue in 2024, no matter how dead the blue canident is. A mostly dead blue team leader is far better than any Christo-Fascist/MAGA/Agenda2024/Trump leader at all…
…In 2024 the first line of defense against the Christo-Fascist agenda, as spearheaded by MAGA and Agenda 2025, is to vote blue all across the board. If we lose this election, sadly the next and only step will be a 2nd US Civil War, so the stakes are higher than ever before, vote all blue.
As someone who follows Hel’s teachings, I believe in judging an individual by their deeds, based on evidence, and that our deeds define us as a person. This is a belief I like to believe most Heathens share, since one of the most common refrains in Heathenism is “You are your deeds.” So I am going to be addressing this topic from this perspective.
To get the giant elephant out of the way, Trump is not a “Christo-Fascist.” He’s not. He might have “Christo-Fascists” who support him, but I do not believe in guilt by association and if I did I can bring up a half dozen groups who support Biden that are just as bad if not worse. Addressing the man himself, and by himself alone, in word and deed Trump has never shown any sign of wanting to establish any sort of Christian Theocracy over the United States. If anything, his efforts to deregulate things show him to be more on the side of anti-authoritarian politics. So does his stance on things like allowing the individual states to set their abortion policies rather than having the federal government (the thing he had power over) do it. Sure, some states may have created more authoritarian laws over the subject, but again that is under their power, not Trumps, something an actual authoritarian would not want or permit if he could prevent it.
Now, I can’t help but notice that Volmarr is dropping this post right after the absolute horrendous disaster that was the presidential debate. I actually watched the debate and everything you hear about how bad it was just doesn’t do credit to how bad it actually was for Biden. When Volmarr says “better a dead blue” he isn’t kidding, because I’m half convinced the only reason Biden was standing there was because his people hired a cut-rate necromancer who didn’t know what the fuck he was doing to reanimate the body.
But is a “Dead Blue” ticket really better for the country? Let’s take Trump out of the equation and simply look at how things have gone under the “Dead Blue” ticket. Well, we had the worst military disaster in the US’s history when we pulled out of Afghanistan, leaving behind billions of dollars in modern military equipment to fall into the hands of Islamic Fascists (who I would rate are even more dangerous and evil than Christ-Fascists), not to mention leaving countless people to be slaughtered by the Taliban who had helped us in our twenty plus years of being there. We got involved in a war between Ukraine and Russia that we honestly had no part in that has cost billions of dollars and countless lives, not to mention the destruction of many historic buildings, cities, and artifacts. You might argue that Afganistan was due to the previous administration, but Ukraine is entirely on Biden’s head. Presently, we are being drawn into the Israeli-Hamas conflict, which is infamous for the fact both side want to genocide each other.
Then there’s the economy. We took a few hits during covid, but by all accounts we could have bounced back. Instead, jobs are down, the economy is in shambles, and it is almost impossible to tell what the actual inflation rate is at this point. Numbers quoted by the government are meaningless, but looking at real world costs like say food, I can say it’s fucked across the board. One great example is that I used to be able to get a basic pimento cheese sandwich for $1.25 in the last year of Trump’s presidency, and as we approach the election that same sandwich is going for $3.00s. I know that’s a bit of an extreme example, but it is still an example. A steak dinner that used to cost $17 now costs about $23. The price of everything has gone up drastically.
Then there’s the candidates themselves, Biden and Harris, on a personal level. Biden referred to blacks as “super criminals” for decades (along with using the n-word), he voted against desegregation (yes, he’s been around that long), he has sexually assaulted several women (including his own daughter by her own account), and he has imprisoned hundreds of American citizens without trial (however you may feel about the J6 people, they are citizens and are entitled to their civil rights, which have been grossly violated).
Harris (who in all likelihood would end up president at this rate) is just as bad. She has traded sexual favors for political favors and promotions. She has boasted about how she sent people to prison to live and work as slaves for smoking weed while she herself has hit the blunt. She vocally supported groups like BLM who raped, pillaged, and murdered across America and even worked to have their members released from prison so they could do it again. She criminalized parents because their children missed school, regardless of the reason (something a Heathen should find rather offensive, I would imagine). She has a history of being anti “sex worker” and while she claims to be for decriminalizing it, those are words, not deeds, and we all know the worth of a politician’s word.
The list for both of them goes on and on. Foul deed after foul deed, both during their time in the white house and well before. As Heathens we must judge people by their deeds, and as a Heathen I cannot support their deeds, nor support another four years of the devastation their deeds in power have brought about as President and Vice-President.
Volmarr then makes the ominous claim that should Biden lose the election, the only option then will be a 2nd civil war. Frankly, I find this to mostly fear mongering, but I am drawn to a deeper meaning behind these words, which is a threat. “Give us our way, or we will rise up with violence and slaughter those who oppose us.”
Do not get me wrong, there are those on the Right who have said the same thing. Both sides, it seems are threatening civil war if they don’t get their way and frankly I find such talk from both sides disgusting. Not because I am against war and violence, I am a Heathen after all, but because of the motivations behind it. They are childish, petulant, and foolish. They speak to an ignorance of what war really is and what it would mean.
I will admit, though, that I have slightly less patience with those on the left calling for Civil War should Trump win. For the last four years, the Left has been screaming at anyone who questioned the validity of the election and imprisoning people without trial who protested it, yet now they’re willing to try and overthrow the government regardless of how legitimate an election it is? This is a level of moral hypocrisy I find disgusting.
Another reason I have less patience with them is because by all accounts, they have no idea how said 2nd civil war would work. Remember, they are the side that has proudly crowed “you can’t beat an F-22 with an AR-15,” yet somehow, if Trump won, they would be able to do just that, despite the fact virtually none of them actually own guns? To further extend that point, the side they’d be fighting against not only has guns, they have more guns than they can use. Trump supporters own more weapons collectively than most actual militarizes around the world do, plus his base is made up of the people who grow the food, make up most of the transportation industry, and the majority of the actual fighting forces of the military.
A 2nd civil war wouldn’t be blue states vs red states, it would be blue cities and counties vs red cities and counties, and while blue cities are larger and more populated than the red ones…that isn’t a benefit. If anything, theory-crafters have concluded that it’s actually a detriment to that side, because they do not have the infrastructure to feed, dress, mobilize, or arm their people, assuming their people are even in fighting condition. Within days, most major blue cities would be blockaded and under siege. Within weeks, they’d be burning from internal riots and looting. Within months, the casualties would be so high they’d surrender. And that’s just what a civilian militia could do to them, the military could do far, far worse.
That’s just on the meta scale. On the micro scale it would literally be neighbor against neighbor, fighting house to house, slaughtering each other. Again, here the “right” have the advantage because they have more guns, but it would lead to horrific casualties and war crimes on both sides.
It’s not the sort of thing one should be threatening, however likely it might be. The sad thing is though, I do wonder if it might not be inevitable. The left is threatening it if Trump gets elected, but if Biden gets elected he is going to create the prime conditions for a civil war as well. People are watching their families go hungry, their watching their civil rights be trampled by the Biden administration, and when even CCN is showing only 33% support for Biden, there is no way anyone in the center or right is going to believe he got elected legitimately this time. You might be able to convince an electorate that is used to a 45/45 split in politics that the guy magically got enough votes to push him over a candidate who got pretty much the highest turn out in history, but you’re not going to convince them when it’s a 33/67 split, because that means Biden lost 2/5ths of his base in a single night. People have started civil wars and revolutions for less than that.
Is Volmarr right to be worried about Christo-Fascists? Absolutely. Is he right to worry about them taking power? Sure, I’m worried about it too. Here’s the thing though, the very thing he suggests as a solution is the very thing that would actually increase the threat, not decrease it. When times are good, people look at totalitarians of all kinds and tell them to fuck right off. Under Trump, we had good times, and even when faced with a world wide plague, we were still hanging on pretty well. Under Biden, we have done terribly, and at the trends we’re seeing in two years we’re going to be looking at what is essentially total economic devastation under an increasingly authoritarian government. Exactly the sort of situation a group like the Christo-Fascists would be able to gain power, because they would be offering the “solution” to question like “how do I feed my family?”
I would like to think Volmarr’s heart is in the right place, but it is clear to me that his mind isn’t. He doesn’t understand Christianity. He doesn’t seem to understand how bad things have gotten for the average person under Biden. He doesn’t seem to understand how a 2nd civil war would work. He rails against the evils of exclusionary thinking, militant aggression, xenophobia, intolerance, and authoritarianism, which is good, but then he turns around and calls for authoritarianism, militant aggression, and exclusionary thinking if/when Trump should be elected. He calls holy for himself the very things he condemns as sins in others. Years ago this would have made me furious, now…it just makes me sad, especially to see in a fellow Heathen. We are our deeds, and what is an evil deed for one man cannot be a holy deed for you. That is something Hel taught me years ago.
I am not going to tell you who to vote for. As a man, I believe in the separation of church and state, which means that as Hel’s Gothi, it is not my place to tell you whom you must vote for. All I can tell you, on an individual level, is this. Look at the deeds and accomplishments of both candidates, both good and ill. Judge their character not by their words, nor by who their supporters are, or what party they belong to, but as individual men and what they themselves have done. Then ask yourself if you can support such a man. If you can, then vote for him. If not, then walk away. That is the council Hel gave to me, years ago.
May Odin grant you wisdom, may Thor grant you protection, and know that in the end of your days Hel will judge you fairly. Hela Bless.
Good to know your words are still sharp and your defiance is still bold Helsson; even better to know you’re still in Midgard with the rest of us… We all really missed your continued content, glad to see it’s alive as well…
