So, there’s a blog on here called Islam, World’s Greatest Religion! Which, idk, I guess is fair for someone to say that if they believe in Islam, because no one says anything. I mean, I can think of numerous reasons why Islam is not the world’s greatest religion. If I was going to name the world’s greatest religion, in terms of openness, acceptance, peaceful nature, etc, I’d probably go with Buddhism.
Still, I can’t help but wonder what would happen if I changed the name of this blog to Asatru, World’s Greatest Religion and spouted off all the time that Asatru was the best religion, there was no other religion than Asatru, no Gods and Goddesses other than the Aesir and Vanir, that people who practices Asatru were superior and holier than everyone else, and all the stuff that Muslims seem to do about Islam, or Christians do about Christianity, just adapted to Asatru.
I think I might get called a racist…
Certainly, I doubt anyone would believe me that Asatru is the world’s greatest religion. Personally, I think it’s one of the best ones out there (I’m partial to my own team) and I think it’s the greatest religion for myself (except perhaps the ancient Roman religion, that one seems pretty cool). But I don’t have delusions that Asatru, or any of the Heathen religions, are the best in the world. I don’t think there is a “Greatest Religion” in the world. Not even Atheism (which, frankly, is a rather crappy religion when all you do is deny there’s anything out there and call anyone who disagrees with you an idiot :P) All things being equal, all religions should, nominally be equal. Maybe it’s on a bell curve at best, where most religions average out, with a few at the top and few that really suck. Personally, I think any religion that makes its women second class citizens, says anyone who doesn’t worship it is evil and inhuman, and likes to kill gays, sorcerers, and non-believers has to be a pretty sucky religion.
Idk, could be wrong. What do you think? Leave it in the comments.
I think we all should change the names of our blogs to Is The World’s Greatest Religion. At least for 1 yr. Maybe that would make people knock that crap off. I think a title like that is tacky, self serving, and inflammatory myself. I wouldn’t read a blog that had that kind of a title. I know what I would see there. Nothing but “BELIEVE THIS OR DIE!” Same as if it had been a Christianity Is the World’s Greatest Religion blog. We know what we’d find there. A lot of condemnation, a lot of fire and brimstone, a lot of outdated barbarism.
I think I’ll be “Witchcraft Is the World’s Greatest Lifestyle”. That should turn some heads.

What she said. Also I wonder how “Kemetism: The World’s Greatest Religion” would go over…

I like this idea, maybe we should run with it. 😀 See if we can’t get it to pass around some of the pagan blogosphere.

That would be interesting. And kind of fun.

At least for a week, when do you think we should do it?

Okay. Well, we’d have to be completely over-the-top and assholes. OH! How about every day we write a single thing about why our religions are better than Christianity? For example, for Kemetism, I could write about how the ankh owns the cross. What do you think?

That could work, or hit islam too, and talk about how that false religion says women should cover all their bodies, but Asatru, the World’s Greatest Religion, says that beautiful people should be completely nude as it celebrates the gods and goddesses, and instead of spending all your time on your knees praying on fridays, we have orgies on that day dedicated to Freya! 😀

That sounds awesome.

I’m wondering if I could keep up with it without going “NAH JUST JOSHING.”

Heck if i know. part of me wonder’s if we shouldn’t put a disclamer at the bottom of each post that says something like: This article is a parody of all monotheistic blogs that insist their religion is the only true way in this world. ____ does not endorse supremacist attitudes towards religions, but seeks to live in harmony with all paths willing to extend the same respect.

Some Heathenry does support that… you might get a bunch of blog hits from people like that..

Actually….I just had the craziest Idea…What if we didn’t do it as an extreme parody. What if we did it completely serious. Talk about why ours are better…I’m just having trouble picturing anything extreme about my religion that to people like that wouldn’t be worse than the actual truth…

That could be interesting. We’d be like prophets or missionaries.

yeah, and might be better in the long run. After all, I’m sure I can write an article that Asatru is better in how we treat our women equally and celebrate their beauty, rather than forcing them to cover it up and treating them as less. I’m not sure how to make that an extreme parody. 😛

I know I could parody the ankh and there being more than one god but aside from that…

Just had to comment while delving into the archives, thanks for saying we’re the world’s greatest religion. I think most people forget about Buddhists. XD
